“Life will break you. Nobody can protect you from that, and being alone won’t either, for solitude will also break you with its yearning. You have to love. You have to feel. It is the reason you are here on earth. You have to risk your heart. You are here to be swallowed up. And when it happens that you are broken, or betrayed, or left, or hurt, or death brushes too near, let yourself sit by an apple tree and listen to the apples falling all around you in heaps, wasting their sweetness. Tell yourself that you tasted as many as you could.” ~Louise Erdrich, The Painted Drum

My name is Jan short for Jannat.  This is my journey using snaps and narratives of my adventures working as a Volunteer in the Galley aboard the Africa Mercy Ship in the Canary Islands, Spain.  I am not exactly sure what I would be doing, but the experience is what I am really seekingMy original plan was to board a plane to Las Palmas, Canary Islands.  Then I would board the Africa Mercy Ship.  Cancellation was on the close.  I sat in SeaTac Airport for the night filled with excitement that I was going to be boarding a plane on Monday, October 1st, 2021 and would be in the Canary Islands on Tuesday, October 2nd.  Well, not even close.  There were no announcements over the loudspeaker not even chatter around the Iberia Airline ticket area.   I spent my time listening to meditations about accepting change when we must endure with a mix of music for Vata/Teacher constitutions from 11:30 am till 8 pm.  Now it was time to find out what was really going on.  All flights to Spain were cancelled due to COVID until October 18th

Given the COVID quarantine that meant I did a Google search of hostels closest to me and came up with The Green Tortoise Hostel which is right in front of Pike Place Market.  It is conveniently next to Target (which also serves as a grocery store) and Walgreens across the street.  Pike Place Market is a little mecca where you can find the finest seafood, cheeses, breads and fruits and vegetables. Not to mention the restaurants.

In the meantime, I decided to add more life skills to get a better understanding of living with these challenges through meditating and healing the somatic blocks allowing me to gain a better understanding of the impermanence in this situation. More importantly, why I am experiencing this right now.  Here’s what I discovered.

Something Different Every Day

I love to think of new ways to be resourceful and creative.  I decided to live in a Hostel instead of a motel (hadn’t planned on that expense). I discovered new ways to solve my money problems with a passive income through this blog, working in the galley as well as fundraising for the Africa Mercy Ship.  Tasting Nirvana blog is about my perspectives with respect to the cultural differences between people, places and things.  Posts will focus on how to become inspired, engaged and interested in whatever is happening. How to use creativity in a relaxed and joyful manner, with a new perspective of your day will make doing your daily tasks more pleasurable.

Discovering the aspects of my life that aren’t benefitting me and changing them is my first step in this journey.  It turns out that I am having a wonderful time incorporating the Ayurvedic approach into my daily life and seeing how I would like it to play out under any circumstances…Hostel, apartment, farm or aboard a ship.  I would like to experience it all.  Thriving through Wellness makes life worthy for everyone.

Blessings to all…

In Gratitude,
